I grew up in a rural environment brimming with natural beauty, cultural richness, and diversity, but remote. The location affected my growth and education. At the tender age of five, I was inspired by my aunt's watercolor paintings, igniting the passion for art.
ART AS A HEALING DRUG
My name is Afzal and I am an Indian visual artist and sculptor born in 1991 in Bagral Gaon, a village in the Dehradun district of the Uttarakhand state, India. My deeply introspective and healing artistic research moves along the boundaries of abstract expressionism, asemic writing, and polymaterial sculpture, giving life to a personal movement I defines as "Dazlism".
Here, I want to give you a window into what hands and brain can do against pain during the most difficult phase of my mental health struggle. I used brushstrokes, allowing my emotions and inner torment to guide my hand. This act had an immediate effect on my suffering and, day after day, I noticed a positive change, as if my immune system were fighting the “virus” of depression.
I want my art to travel the world, not for fame, but to share this story and show the quiet strength hidden in every person’s unique talent.
We must find what truly inspires us, explore it by trying many things, without fear of change, and keep searching. Without ever stopping.
I observe and absorb the world around me, and then I put my thoughts down as poems or reflections. Read my first lines.
Be inspired
